History Nordstorm
This Swedish boy named John W. Nordstrom, came to the US at the age of 16 with a dream to do business in the world’s most flourishing economy.This business minded boy first went for a potato farm in Washington and then after the Gold Rush in Canada in the year 1897. Having found gold after years of search, he had to sell it as his destiny was something else.
With the sale proceeds of the found gold, John W. Nordstromstarted a shoe store in Seattle with his wife Hilda Carlson in 1901 called Wallin& Nordstrom. He partnered with Carl F. Wallin, who was running a shoe repair shop back then. John thought of retirement and sold his share to John’s two sons, Everett and Elmer in 1928. In 1929, Wallinthought of the same idea of retirement and sold his shares to the two new shareholders of the company.
The two brothers renamed the brand as Nordstorm and went for grand opening of the remodeled Second Avenue store in 1030. This was the start of Nordstorm that we know today. The company then came in to apparel business by acquiring Best Apparel of Seattle in 1963, and to reflect this acquisition, the brand name was changed to Nordstrom's Best.
Since then, the brand has been carefully diversifying in to other line of products that the company have today under its umbrella and this was the result of careful market study and the need to diversify in to other products in order to be able to stay in the business.
These acquisitions and diversifications have not been easy and took a lot of resources of the company but we can comfortably say that the company has done well in identifying the need and the correct time of including other products in its product range. For order under $100, a flat rate of $5.95 is applied for Jewelry, Watches, Accessories and/or Beauty items while all other items are shipped at a flat rate of $7.95.
- Two-business day shipping: A flat rate of $15 is applied.
